How can we help?
We're a small family farm on the Big Island, and these are the questions we hear most often. If you don't find your answer below, please email us at fruit@hulabrothers.com — we read and reply to every message.
Shipping & Delivery
How is your fruit shipped?
All of our fruit ships from our farm via FedEx, with a physical address required (we cannot ship to PO Boxes). Lychee ships FedEx Overnight Air to ensure peak freshness. Longan and Rambutan ship FedEx 2nd Day Air. Most West Coast addresses (California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada) and Hawaii receive deliveries the day after shipment; most other states take 2 days. Alaska orders ship FedEx 2nd Day Air.
When will my order ship?
We generally ship Monday, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. If you'd like to confirm your shipment date, email us at fruit@hulabrothers.com with your order number and we'll get back to you as quickly as possible.
How do I track my order?
You'll receive an email with FedEx tracking information as soon as your package ships. Use that link to follow your order all the way through delivery.
Where do you ship?
We ship anywhere in the continental U.S., plus Hawaii and Alaska. We are not able to ship to Florida (state agricultural restrictions) or to PO Boxes (a physical address is required). We do not currently offer international shipping.
How is your fruit packaged?
Our fruit ships in cardboard cases without ice packs or insulation. All fruit must be treated with electronic pasteurization before leaving Hawaii, and packaging materials are USDA-regulated — which limits what we can include in the box. The combination of FedEx Overnight or 2nd Day shipping plus minimal packaging is what keeps the fruit at its best between our farm and your door.
How do I add delivery instructions for FedEx?
Once you receive your tracking number, the fastest way to add gate codes, leave-at-door instructions, or arrange a hold for pickup is through FedEx Delivery Manager directly. We're unable to relay delivery notes to FedEx on your behalf.
Can I change my shipping address or cancel my order?
If your order hasn't shipped yet, email us at fruit@hulabrothers.com as soon as possible and we'll do our best to update or cancel it. Once a package is in FedEx's hands, changes need to go through FedEx Delivery Manager.
Can I send this as a gift?
Yes — and we love that. Add your gift message in the order notes at checkout and we'll include it in the box. No invoices, prices, or billing information are ever included in our shipments, so your order can be sent directly to the recipient.
My fruit arrived damaged or my order was delayed — what should I do?
Please email us at fruit@hulabrothers.com within 24 hours of delivery with photos of the issue. Clear photos of the box exterior plus the fruit help us file FedEx claims and assess what happened. We stand behind our fruit — real damage, weight discrepancies, or significant delivery problems are always refunded or replaced. Please don't hesitate to reach out; we'd much rather hear from you than have you eat the loss.
About our Fruit & Farm
Where is your fruit grown?
Hula Brothers is a family-owned and operated farm on the slopes of Mauna Loa on the Big Island of Hawaii. We've been growing and packing tropical and exotic fruit since 1987 — and we're the only Hawaii grower shipping fresh lychee, longan, and rambutan directly to customers on the mainland U.S.
What makes Hula Brother's Hawaii-grown lychee, longan and rambutan different from imported?
Most imported exotic fruit is treated with post-harvest chemicals, fumigants, or preservatives to survive long-distance shipping. Ours is picked ripe, packed by hand, and on a FedEx truck within 48-72 hours — no chemical treatments after harvest, no waxes, no dyes. The difference in flavor, juice content, and aroma is significant.
What is Kaimana lychee?
Kaimana is a Hawaiian-developed lychee variety prized for its large size, thin red skin, juicy translucent flesh, and small pit. It tends to be sweeter and more aromatic than the smaller imported varieties most U.S. shoppers know — which is why people trying Kaimana for the first time are often surprised by how different "Hawaii" lychee tastes.
When is your fruit in season?
Lychee is in season May through July. Longan runs through fall, winter, and spring, with occasional summer harvests. Rambutan is fall and winter. Sign up for our email list to be notified when each fruit becomes available — seasons can shift slightly year to year depending on weather.
Why does the size, color, or sweetness vary between orders?
We're a small family farm, and our trees don't ripen all at once. Each harvest pulls from a different part of the orchard, so size, color, and sweetness shift as the season progresses — fruit shipped in late May genuinely tastes different than fruit shipped in late June. This is normal, and it's what tree-ripened fruit grown without preservatives looks like.
That said, if your fruit arrives visibly damaged, browning beyond cosmetic skin darkening, or otherwise off, that is a different issue — please email us with photos and we'll make it right.
How long does the fruit last after it arrives?
Many customers say they eat it all before it has chance to reach the fridge.
Lychee will keep 5–7 days in a sealed container in the fridge; longan and rambutan typically keep slightly longer. The shells will naturally darken over time, but the fruit inside stays sweet and juicy. See our How to Store Lychee guide for step-by-step photos.
Do you sell wholesale or to restaurants?
We have limited wholesale availability. Email fruit@hulabrothers.com with your business details and what you're looking for, and we'll let you know what's possible.
Is your fruit organic? What do you spray?
We are not certified organic. We use conventional sprays as infrequently as possible to keep our trees and fruit healthy. We do not use any post-harvest chemicals, waxes, dyes, or preservatives once the fruit is picked.
Is your fruit irradiated?
All Hawaii-grown produce shipped to the mainland is required by USDA to be treated before leaving the state, to prevent Hawaii's tropical pests from reaching mainland orchards. Our fruit is treated with eBeam (electron beam) electronic pasteurization — a process that uses electrons from commercial electricity to neutralize any insects or larvae that might be present.
eBeam does not use any radioactive material at any point in the process. The fruit is not made radioactive, and no radioactive isotopes or sources are involved. For more on how electronic pasteurization compares to other food treatments, the FDA has a clear explainer here.
Can I order a mixed case with Rambutan, Lychee, and/or Longan?
All of our fresh fruit is sold by the case and cannot be mixed with other fruit within the same case, due to export regulations.
